Dear Parents/Guardians,
Parent volunteers have been hard at work developing by-laws for the ISL-PTO. We are happy to announce that they have met the deadline and the document is now posted online (click here).
Every parent/guardian with a child at ISL is a member of the ISL-PTO; there are no membership dues or fees. The primary goal of the organization is to encourage, engage and coordinate family involvement at our school.
The ISL-PTO will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, April 30th at 6pm in the school cafeteria.
With the by-laws in place and the first meeting scheduled, the next step is to find people to lead the organization. On April 30th Parents/Guardians will elect four representatives:
A President, who presides at meetings in such a way that all members are welcome to participate, is an ex-officio member of all committees, facilitates communications between committees and officers and manages transitions from year to year
A Vice-President, who attends the monthly ISL Board of Trustees meeting to act as a representative of ISL-PTO, assists the President and fills that role when the President is unavailable
A Recording Secretary, who writes the agendas for all meetings in conjunction with the President, keeps an accurate record of all meetings of the organization and maintains the By-Laws.
A Correspondence Secretary, who must be well versed in Robert’s Rules of Order so to assist the President in running all meetings in accordance with those guidelines; circulates agendas and other notices to the General Membership, replies to all emails received by the organization’s email address and submits all ISL-PTO related items to the school periodical and web page coordinators.
All ISL-PTO members are eligible to run for an elected office. If you are interested in any one of the above positions, please send an e-mail to pto@isl-edu.org to place your name on the ballot. Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the first meeting.
We truly hope that you will join us on April 30th. Years of research show the children do best when their families are actively involved in their education; playing a variety of roles both at home and in the school. When schools and families work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school and like school more. As a school, it is our goal to have each student reach their personal best level of academic and social achievement. We can’t do it without you.
You already know what a remarkable educational opportunity ISL provides; no other school in the state has a mission dedicated not only to academic achievement, but to celebrating diversity and promoting community responsibility. With the ISL-PTO we will be ensuring that our parent-teacher organization represents our school and our community members in accordance with this mission and in partnership for our children.
With Thanks,
Sean Wilson
Head of School
