Admissions Policy
Grades 2- 8
Open to any child in the State of Louisiana, ISL seeks students from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds who will benefit from its challenging academic program. Admission is based on successful completion of the language proficiency examination. For those grades in which we have more successful test takers than we do available spaces, we will hold a lottery.
ISL admission requirements are consistent with the school’s language immersion policy. To enter the school beyond 1st grade, students must be grade level proficient in either French or Spanish. A language assessment will be administered by a target language, grade appropriate faculty member.
Admission Procedures
Students for whom we have completed applications on file will be notified a testing date. Successful test takers will then be either admitted or if we have more successful applicants than we do spaces, will be entered into a lottery. The lottery will determine the order in which we offer available spaces to successful applicants.
Students who withdraw from school and subsequently wish to return are subject to the same admissions requirements as new incoming students with regard to language fluency.
Students who have already been admitted do not need to reapply in following years.
ISL does not discriminate on the basis of intellectual or athletic ability, status as a handicapped person, or any other basis that would be illegal if used by a district board of education. ISL complies with all Louisiana statutes concerning public schools.
