The Vision
The International School of Louisiana (ISL) was founded in 2000 by a group of parents eager to make a contribution toward improving the quality of public education in Louisiana. The school’s founders envisioned a public school offering a foreign language-based academic program with a global perspective. By offering a new choice in public education, ISL hopes to generate educational opportunities of the highest caliber for all students in Louisiana.
The Program:
- A challenging Kindergarten-8th grade academic program
- Full language immersion in French or Spanish
- Introduction of Chinese Language Arts in Middle School
- Limited English language instruction
- Music, art, physical education and after school enrichment program
The Benefits:
- Fluency in a second language
- High academic achievement
- Increased mental flexibility and critical thinking ability
- Emphasis on awareness of the global community and respect for the variety of peoples and cultures
- Stronger science, math and problem solving skills
An integral part of the ISL mission is to promote respect for and understanding of other cultures, which is reflected in its diverse staff and faculty. Teachers come from 17 different nations, many of which reflect the history and culture of New Orleans; faculty from France, Spain, Africa, Mexico and over a dozen other countries help to bring the diversity of this region into sharp focus for our students.
